OMG!!! Is your email list just falling ill? Do you
know the reason behind?
“Yes” You are on the safer side…
“No,” You are not aware of the reason; you
better buck up to check out these pitfalls.
#1 Is your list permission based?
“Yes” You may move on to the next question.
“No” Stop all your email campaigns.
You cannot send emails to recipients who aren’t
interested in your services/products. How can you expect people who are not
even aware of you, to read your emails? What would you do if you get such
mails? Won’t you just throw in the trash or mark as SPAM? The same is
applicable to your recipients. The immediate step you need to take is to launch
a campaign to ask permission from all your contacts. Once the recipients
opt-in, segregate them into separate list. Send emails to these email addresses
and I bet you can definitely get a high open and click-through rate.
#2 Do you have an unsubscribe list?
“Yes” Great.
“No” Believe me you’ll be in soup.
People have opted-out from your mailing list; expect
not to have any further communication with you. If you still did not remove
them from your mailing list, you keep sending those emails. What are the odds that
recipients won’t sue you for going against the CAN SPAM rules? And you fall
trap for this, coming back to email marketing will become really tough for you.
You might end up paying millions of
dollars as penalty. Always remove the email address of the recipient who has
opted-out within ten days of opting-out.
#3 Did you mail them in the last one month?
“Yes” Whoa you are doing great. Hope you have
reached your targets. Get going.
“No” Forget it. Your recipients must have forgotten
about you.
You don’t send them emails for months together.
Forget about credibility, how do you expect them to remember you? Nevertheless that
you have a great database, if you forget to keep in touch regularly it’s as
worse as not having a database. Send emails in a consistent frequency. Don’t
overdo or underdo. You can take the recipients’ choice of frequency of emails during
the time of sign up.
Do not fall into these three pitfalls you can
rest assured about the health of your email list and likewise your ROI.
